Hello fellow AUA August 2012 accepted people...

I have been monitoring the forums for some time and do not see any recent posts with newer info or updates especially tailored for people starting August 2012 semester 1. So Please all who are accepted, and alumni, please give any new updates.

I am currently waiting on an ever elusive Financial Aid Package so I can start applying for the loan at BOLM. I haven't done any shopping in terms of materials and preps since everything for me depends on being approved for the BOLM Loans (will be applying with father as cosigner who has a credit score of 750). and JUNE is already ending...!

And to add salt to the injuries, we have the grand tuition hikes...at AUA... :( :bored:

So I highly urge all to contribute and share so we can help each other out...! :D

AUA secures funding from Ed-Invest for Fall 2012

I just received an email from AUA stating that they secured Ed-Invest loans for Fall 2012. After doing a search on Ed-Invest I noticed that they funded AUA back in 2008 anyone know what happened and why they dropped funding AUA?

Is a co-signer required for those that do not have good credit?

Hey Guys! I'm currently a 4th semester student at a foreign medical school in Mexico. However I am really adamant about getting out of here as soon as possible. If anyone has transferred to AUA can they please share their experiences with me so i can have an idea of what all i need to do. I tried contacting the AUA office in NY several times, but all i got was their answer machine. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Dear fellows

I have finished BSEP in Jan-Apr 2012 and this is my grade:
Human Anatomy & Physiology (5 credits): A
Genetics & Micro (4 credits): B
Cell Biology (3 Credits): B+

My undergraduate major: Molecular Biology & Biochemistry: cGPA 2.54/4.33
My Licensed Practical Nurse school grade: cGPA: 3.41/4.33
No Mcat
And going to start Med1 in Aug 2012

I have been working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for two years now. I am from Canada BC. I am thinking of transfer out of AUA because of tuition fee. I am not sure I should transferring out or not since I want to graduate from a medical school that is highly competitive with US medical schools and Caribbean med schools, but at the same time I don't want to graduate with a humongous debt. Beside, California approvals it doesn't affects me at all. Thus, I am thinking to transfer to other Caribbean med schools with lower tuition fee. One other factor that I am thinking to transferring out of AUA is because I have tried to apply Canada federal loan but the requirement is the school that you attend has to be established more than 10 years. Thus, AUA is not qualified. Any suggestions guys? or which school to transfer to? I'm really in doubt.

Hi, I’m trying to understand how I can graduate and enter into residency after 4 years if I go to AUA.

From my understanding... If I start in August 2012 and do not repeat any class,

BASIC sciences
Semester 1: Aug 2012 to Dec 2012
Semester 2: Jan 2013 to June 2013
Semester 3: Aug 2013 to Dec 2013
Semester 4: Jan 2014 to June 2014
5th semester: Aug 2014 to Dec 2014

CLINICAL sciences
Jan 2015-Dec 2015: 52weeks
Jan2016-Apr2016: 16weeks (not enough rotations???)

Residency starts July 2016?

Am I missing something?

Dear AUA students,

I am currently a 5th semester medical student at AUA. I am starting this thread to benefit all those who are renting cars on the island. DO NOT rent a car/apartment from ALAN OSBORNE. He owns the car company ARVO'S limited. He also owns apartments on Friar's hill road (the yellow ones on the hill). He is a crook, greedy, and money hungry. Many students regreted renting from him in the past. If you get in an accident, you wil be ordered to pay a HUGE sum (he will make you pay for the whole car), you will have no choice but to pay it, bc his dad is a politician and has many connections, and his wife is a lawyer. you will be in jail and taken to court if you dont pay his asking amount. He has done this to many students. He also has the power to stop you from bording the plane and leaving the island. ALSO if you are currently renting from him, he will not return your deposit and WILL make you pay for any damages that were already on the car, so RETURN the car and get your deposit back. There are plenty of other people that charge less and are very nice to rent cars from. If you need numbers for those people, please message me. ONCE AGAIN PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM HIM.

Does any one know what AUA is requiring as the passing score for COMP Shelf exam? I heard the current pass grade is 65, which might change to 67. Is it true??

Also, any advice on how to study for COMP Shelf? I know there are posts from 2010 and 2011, but I want to know from the students that took the exam recently in 2012. Is the exam harder now then before? How many questions are there??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Rape case in antigua and barbuda

Hello everyone;

Like many of you I decided to pick aua as my school to persue medicine but its been a while, 6 months that I have withdrew from the program due to a situation that happened while I was on the island...please consider all the cons, all that is stoped to leak out... before going down to antigua..

locals on the island do not enjoy having students around and unfortunately I was considered as one of them, they are highly racist towards students, specially if you have lighter skin color... one night before our 2nd exam I decided to walk outside my apartment to smoke a cigarette and refresh my brain for the challenge coming my way the next day, I did as I wished.

lighting the cigarette walking in the neighborhood, I was strangled in my thoughts about tomorrow and nothing else..while going through my thoughts a car approached me and asked me if he could borrow a smoke, before getting a minute to answer, two huge guys came off the car and took me into the back sit, took me a minute of silence to get out of the shock and get my thoughts together.. All I could think of was to stay quiet so that maybe they would let me go after they take all I had with me..a watch, 50 bucks, a pair of somehow expensive shoes and a pack of smoke.. I just stayed quiet instead of screaming and pissing them off in any way..they took me to a graveyard and and just like I thought they took all my belongings..but unlike what I expected it didn't end right there..they started beating me up, it was blood every where, I dont know if it was my nose, my head bleeding, all I could think of was to stay quiet so that they would think im dead and leave..it got to a point that I didnt need to act dead anymore, I became unconscious..I woke up hours later all bloody, it was still dark when I got up, I dont know how many hours it has been.. there was this pain radiating up from my legs, my shirt and pants were all covered in blood... i ignored the pain and I started walking towards the closest light in sight to save myself from the graveyard... next day I went to school complaining..no one wanted to listen.

10 days later I went back to new york...and specifically for a check up to my doctor..
my family doctor took the time to explain, to even start what he was about to tell me, his sympathy and his talk about raising level of aids and stds in antigua was stabbing right through my heart, finally he got to the words I never wanted to hear... and he said it, I was diagnosed with aids, I couldnt believe this was happening to me, I denied it for the longest time, out of all the people why was it me? or how many more cases are out there that just never get a chance to talk about it? or are too embarrassed to even mention it?

turned out during all those hours I wasn't just beaten up and bloody all over but also raped while unconscious..aids..doesnt have a cure..I am a 23 years old guy that will live with aids for the next 20 years...still hurts like the very first day when I was notified...

I am entering the MD program in aug 2012 and i just got an email informing me that I am placed in Anchorage Inn Hotel. Now I understand housing is first come first serve basis and that is why i sent my deposit 2 days after i got my acceptance but this housing none of the ones i requested. I was hoping for housing that is 5 min walk from campus but apparently this one is 25 mins walk. Can anyone tell me anything about this housing as to, where exactly is it located, how far is it, what amenities are available, what is the voltage etc etc.

Also if anyone else is assigned that housing please share your experiences.
